WATER ACTIVITIES & FISHING


Boat Hire
There is currently no boat hire available in the City, however this may change in the near future.

Boat Ramps
Main ramp in front of the Augusta Hotel
Ski Club ramp north of the old bridge
Yacht Club ramp south of Woolworths
Accessible at any tide.

Floating pontoons
At the end of the wharf near the Yacht Club
West side of Port Augusta in front of the Augusta Hotel

 


Fishing

Port Augusta's unusually sheltered waters are great for fishing.
You can fish from:

Jetty
The old bridge - Trumpeters and crabs - summer
Two jetties either side of Spencer Gulf
The Wharf on the eastern side

Land
The Redbanks and rail bridge embankment 3-4 km north of Port Augusta.
Tidal flats through summer - yellow fin whiting, garfish and tommy ruff with dolphin fish in December.

Who said fishing was not good in Port Augusta?  Check this out!






Boat fishing by the Power Station outlet channel in winter, June through October is brilliant.
Yellowtail kingfish, king george whiting are found in these waters, too.
Garfish in the mangroves in May.
Rugger snapper are found in summer around the Power Station and further south on artificial and natural grounds.

Adventure

Port Augusta Outdoor Adventure Centre

Experienced visitors are able to hire the equipment; depending on skill level
with a minimum fee of $20 per hour per person without an instructor would apply.
$50 per person for three hours.
$60 per person for five hours.

With an instructor: $50 per person per hour.
$40 per person for two - four people.
$30 per person is four plus people per hour

With prior arrangement guided bushwalking, rock climbing and abseiling can be arranged.
You can hire a bike and tour the City via the marked bike tracks.

Sailing

Being the 2nd oldest Yacht Club in South Australia Port Augusta has very friendly, experienced and extremely helpful yachties.
Drop into the Club for a shower, charts, anchorages and fishing tips or call beforehand on Phone 08 86424856

All year round sailing that's safe, scenic and interesting.
The Club runs occasional dinghy and keel boat races with sail training on Sundays.
The Annual Gulf trip - a 14-day tag-along-tour is held in March.
The Tripolis - a three-day race, sets sail each year during the Christmas break.

Beaches

On the eastern foreshore, between the Oasis Apartments and the bridge.
Swimming pontoons by the jetty.
Adjacent to the Yacht Club
West side - between the bridge and the Augusta Hotel
Between the new bridge and old bridge

Pool

Ryan Mitchell Swim Centre is Port Augusta's community pool and recreation facility.
Olympic size pool, covered wading, intermediate pool for learners and a canteen.

Pool times

Lap: 6:00am - 7:00pm *(9:00pm)
General: 9:00am - 7:00pm *(9:00pm)
NOTE: Swimming Club have 3 lanes closed between 5:30pm and 6:30pm
Weekends: 10.00 am - 9.00 PM
(* open till 9.00 PM if over 26°C
Closed Christmas Day Open in Summer only.
