Flinders Ranges Sunset Cruise

Outback Express 4 W/D Tour - 4.5 hours
Travel along the track to Depot Creek on the western side of the Flinders Ranges, which is South Australia's original and oldest Outback track. Port Augusta's close proximity to the Flinders Ranges and the Outback allows you to have an incredible tour in a relatively short time. The first European explorer into the Flinders Ranges and Outback was Edward John Eyre in 1839. His first expedition is arguably the most historic yet is little known as he discovered Depot Creek, which supplied water to Port Augusta and the early steam trains.
Other explorers also used to camp here. It is situated 40km north of Port Augusta on Wilkatana station. This is a trip you must take. Unbelievable history to learn about and some of the best scenery you will see.

Ranges Outback Gulf Loop - 5 hrs
This really is the ultimate must do experience, giving a full compliment of seemingly impossible contrasts.
Travel through to Quorn and now includes "Warren Gorge", known for its fantastic rock formations & a chance to spot a "Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby". Travel through Thompsons Gap, the original entrance from the Flinders Ranges to the salt plains of the top of the Spencer Gulf. PICHI RICHI RAILWAY
This historic steam train journey travels part of the famous old narrow-gauge Ghan railway line and carries passengers from Port Augusta, with a full day journey on the Afghan Express travels through the Pichi Richi Pass via Woolshed Flat to Quorn and return to Port Augusta about 4:15am. You will have a 2hr stay in Quorn.
The Pichi Richi Explorer, a 2 ½ hour journey departs Quorn to Woolshed Flat and return.
A must for train enthusiasts and everyone else.

CHANNEL MAIL RUN
Each Wednesday at 8am and returning on Thursday, the Outback Mail Run leaves Port Augusta for Birdsville in Queensland, to deliver mail and supplies to some of the most isolated areas of Australia.
The popular trip only takes two passenges at a time, so you will need to book well in advance.

PORT AUGUSTA GOLF CLUB
Hamilton Road
With the beautiful Flinders Ranges making a spectacular backdrop for Port Augusta's Golf Course, 18 fully grassed greens and fairways and a licensed Club. The course is considered one of the best country courses in northern South Australia.
The club hosts the Jacob's Creek Port Augusta Golf Classic in the first week of August, attracting 300 players for 7 days of competition.
Visitors with an AGU official handicap are welcome to join in the competitions, if not, pay your fees at any other time and play by yourself or check at the club house for a partner.
The Club is staffed by volunteers and is open every day from 8am to 4pm.
The Bar is open Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm until approximately 6pm and Friday's from 5.30pm.
Limited golf club hire and buggies are available from the club house, but you can also hire the equipment from the Standpipe Gulf Motor Inn on (08) 8642 4033.

HERITAGE WALK
A band new Heritage Walk is now featured in the Port Augusta Visitor Guide which can be posted to you or pick up a copy at the Wadlata Outback Centre and find the secrets of our heritage.
The Heritage Walk will guide you to some of the best historical buildings around the City Centre so you can get a feel and an understanding of the benefits of Port Augusta's geographical location. You will be able to image and see from some of the historial interpretive panels how we evolved into a bustling tourism City of today. This Walk takes you back into yesteryear.
Allow at least two hours to complete.

MODEL RAILWAY TRAINS
A ride on the model trains is just not for the kids. The adults are just as thrilled, if not more, with the experience.
Experience a ride on a miniature train carriage drawn by a diesel or steam model engine, along a five-inch gauge model railway system. Model train rides are held on the first and thrid Sunday of each month between 1pm and 4.30pm, weather permitting. Closed in shoes must be worn. No thongs or sandals.

The waters of the northern Spencer Gulf are virtually untouched and are ideal for all kinds of water sports.
The outdoor centre offers lessons in kayaking,canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, knee-boarding, snorkeling, small boat handling.
Subject to your demonstrated experience, you may be able to hire the equipment.
Bush walking, with day and overnight walks, rock climbing, abseiling and orienteering can be prearranged.

THE WAVE Skate & BMX Park
Port Augusta now has a world class skate & BMX park built by Convic Skateparks, one of the worlds leading skate park builders.
Entry from El Alamein Road near the boat ramp at the western end of BigW. The main entrance leads into a transition area with heights ranging from 3-7ft. There are a range of quarter pipes and banks splitting into a bowled pocket and mini-ramp section, which has a timber batten roof to create an iconic full pipe effect.
The WAVE offers a unique design not often seen in traditional skateparks, which attracts many visitors of all ages to this end of the foreshore. The WAVE is suitable for all levels of experience. This kids say it is awesome....wickered!!!

Your Tour Guide Derek is a local from Hawker who knows the places to go that are off the normal tracks onto private property. His tours are Eco Certified and tourism accredited.
He is also a great German interpreter.

The Oaks tour offers many different aspects of this area that the average tourist does not get to see. Visiting this private property is very personal and sentimental to me, being the property where I spent much of my childhood. The tour will include Jarvis Hill Lookout, superb views of Lake Torrens from the Yappala Range, and the deserted railway town of Old Hookina.
TOUR 2 Full Day - Flinders Ranges National Park Tour
