FLINDERS RANGES WATER CRUISES previously(Augusta Water Cruises)

This multi award winning tour operator with Aaron at the helm, leaves the westside boat ramp at 8.30am most days, to take you on the Top End Tour allowing you a closer look under the wharf,
historic barge, the Redbank Cliffs, the old Salt Works and, when tide permitting, the very tip of Spencer Gulf. This is where the Trans Continental Railway line skirts the last bit of salt water, enroute to western Australia.

Watch the bird life, it is amazing and it is said that 90% of the time you will see dolphins and the sought after yellow tale king fish that feed along the mangrove packed shorelines.


     


The extremely popular 2 hour eco cruise, in the new 30ft luxury vessel is really something different. It allows you to see and experience where the real outback meets the sea.

The evening cruise has been cancelled during the summer months, due to low tides in the evenings, however they will resume during our main season. Please contact +61 8 86419193 for an update.

The new 2 hour trip at either 4.30pm - 6.30pm or 6.30pm - 8.30pm, depending on the time of the year, must be experienced. This tour travels down the Gulf towards the Power Station and returns to take in the beautiful sunset near the Redbanks.

Departs Wednesday evenings only, with a minimum of 2 people. Sunset cruises on other days are subject to demand and require a minimum of 5 people.

Both tours and are subject to tide and weather conditions.

PICHI RICHI RAILWAY
This historic steam train journey travels part of the famous old narrow-gauge Ghan railway line and carries passengers from Port Augusta, with a full day journey, on the Afghan Express, through the Pichi Richi Pass via Woolshed Flat to Quorn and return. 


The Pichi Richi Explorer, a 2 ½ hour journey departs Quorn to Woolshed Flat and return.

     
A must for train enthusiasts and everyone else.

Regular trains operate from March to October, with limited diesel departures in November and December, due to the hot weather.

CHANNEL MAIL RUN
Each Wednesday at 8am and returning on Thursday, the Outback Mail Run leaves Port Augusta for Birdsville in Queensland, to deliver mail and supplies to some of the most isolated areas of Australia.

The popular trip only takes two passenges at a time, so you will need to book well in advance.
You can experience the outback way of life and its people.

FLEA MARKET - UNDERCOVER
At 9am on the 3rd Sunday of each month (except April), the Coles undercover car park comes to life with bargins everywhere.
You can even have breakfast at the sausage sizzle.
The flea market always has an excellent range of local and regional stall holders with cake stalls, food and fresh produce, hand made furniture, jewellery, new and used clothing, odds and sods. There are many new, old and used  bargins to be purchased.

PORT AUGUSTA GOLF COURSE
With the beautiful Flinders Ranges making a spectacular backdrop for Port Augusta’s Golf Course, the fully greened, 18 holes and well-grassed fairways, are considered one of the best country courses in northern South Australia.


The club hosts the Jacob’s Creek Port Augusta Golf Classic in the first week of August, attracting 300 players for 7 days of competition. 

Visitors with an AGU official handicap are welcome to join in the competitions, if not, pay your fees at any other time and play by yourself or check at the club house for a partner.

Limited golf club hire is available from the club house, but you can also hire the equipment from the Standpipe Gulf Motor Inn on 08 8642 4033.

The Club House is open Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 7pm.

BIKE ROUTES
Get peddling. Hire a bike from the Port Augusta Outdoor Adventure Centre or use your own to peddle around and explore Port Augusta.
Three Bike Routes will take you to all sections of the City highlights the things to see and do along the way.

HERITAGE WALK
Featured in the Port Augusta Visitor Guide that we can post to you or you can pick one up from Wadlata.
The Heritage Walk will guide you to some of the best historical buildings around the city centre to image how Port Augusta has developed over the years.
Allow at least two hours to complete.
Dont forget a hat and sunscreen.

MODEL RAILWAY TRAINS
A ride on the model trains is just not for the kids. The adults are just as thrilled, if not more, with the experience.

Port Augusta Model Engineer’s Club, operate their prized possessions that travels along the 5 inch gauge model railway system, in the grounds of the Homestead Park Pioneer Museum, just off Victoria Parade, next to the Keith Jones Memorial Park.

Take a ride on a miniature carriage, drawn by a diesel or steam model engine, on the first and third Sunday of each month between 1pm and 4.30pm, weather permitting.

Closed in shoes MUST be worn, no thongs or sandals.

PORT AUGUSTA OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CENTRE
Situated on the corner of Gibson Street and El Alamein Road, at the western end of Big W.

The waters of the northern Spencer Gulf are virtually untouched and are ideal for all kinds of water sports.

The outdoor centre offers lessons in kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, knee-boarding, snorkeling, small boat handling.
Subject to your demonstrated experience, you may be able to hire the equipment.
Bush walking, with day and overnight walks, rock climbing, abseiling and orienteering can be prearranged.

SKATE BOARD BOWL
Situated on the west side of the City, within Rotary Park on Mitchell Terrace, is a great place for the family to relax while the kids run free.
The well manicured park has a skate board bowl, BBQ, toilet facilities and shelter.
